Buy an annual pass, good value at £3. Spend a few hours enjoying the permanent collection on the first floor which includes many paintings of local scenes, the John Atkinson-Grimshaws being my favourites, and on the ground floor Tom Laughton’s collection (brother of the actor Charles and local hotelier), plus the two temporary exhibitions I especially wanted to see; “Winifred’s War” which explores Winifred Holtby’s life and literary career, plus “They will not dream of us poor lads: Wilfred Owen in Scarborough” which focuses on the poet’s final year, some of which he spent in the town.
