Another first for me and thrill to visit the recently reopened home of the Lord Mayor of York after a major revamp. I am loaned an IPad to read information on each room, but there are also good room guides including a former (twice over) Lord Mayor who explains about the regalia worn when the Queen visited in 2012. There is also a new enthusiastic security guard who chats to me. I enjoy the Georgian kitchen (and interactive instruction from a virtual cook on how to roast a woodcock), the large impressive dining room, first floor state room which runs the whole length of the building, plus the gold and silver collections.
Afterwards I do a spot of shopping, get my free hot chocolate from the York Chocolate Story (I didn’t get this during my visit November 2017), enjoy looking at the exterior of the Minster and Treasurer’s House garden. I then walk along the city walls from Bootham to Monk Bar (taking photos for some Korean tourists) before heading to Sainsburys to food shop and be collected by Paul after his work meeting. A nice little break.
